Pedestrian Safety

8 Safety Tips for Drivers:

• Look out for pedestrians everywhere, at all times.

• Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions, such as nighttime or bad weather.

• Slow down and be prepared to stop when turning or otherwise entering a crosswalk.
• Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop well back from the crosswalk to give other vehicles an opportunity to see the crossing pedestrians so they can stop too.
• Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk. There may be people crossing where you can’t see.
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
• Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, in school zones and in neighborhoods where children are present.
• Be extra cautious when backing up and look for pedestrians.

Guam Construction Update for the week of September 28-October 4, 2026

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed flaggers (when present). Alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.

Islandwide Safety Improvement on Primary Roads (Striping and Marking)
TO-03 - Route 1, from Route 27 to AAFB

Construction activities will continue along Route 1, from  September 28, 2026 to October 2, 2026.  Contractor crews will be working at various locations along this area of Route 1 throughout the week and intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

• Monday to Friday September 28 – October 2, 2026, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, between Yigo McDonald’s to Anderson Air Force Base, Install pavement markings and markers

• Saturday to Sunday, October 3-4, 2026, No Work Scheduled

Islandwide Accessibility Accommodation and Drainage Improvements

Construction activities are scheduled at the following locations from September 28–October 4, 2026:

• At Route 8 between Route 1 and Chalan Santo Papa: Contractor crews will resume sawcutting on the sidewalk on Route 8 between Route 1 and Chalan Santo Papa in front of the Ada Arcade building. Flaggers will be in place to direct motorists entering and exiting the business zone.  Pedestrian detours are in place.

• At the intersection of Route 8 and Route 1: Contractor crews will continue working on the sidewalk by the entrance of The Blush Bridal Shop. Flaggers will be directing motorists entering and exiting the business zone.  Pedestrian detours are in place.

• At the northern entrance to the Ben N' Yan's building along Route 16: Contractor crews will continue working on the sidewalk at the northern entrance of Ben N’ Yan’s. Pedestrian detours are in place. Vehicle access at the northern driveway will be limited to entrance only. Exiting vehicles and pedestrians will be directed to the southern gate.
