The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was enacted by the U.S. Congress to “establish a clear and comprehensive prohibition of discrimination on the basis if disability.” This wide ranging civil rights law, which also prohibits discrimination based on sex, race and religion, requires accessibility for those with physical or mental disabilities in public accommodations such as the workplace, lodging, commercial buildings and more importantly, the public roads.
