Skids on Slippery Surfaces
To prevent skidding on slippery surfaces:

Slow down as you approach intersections and curves. For sharp curves, slow down as you approach and move through.

Avoid fast turns and quick stops.

Shift to low gear before going down a steep hill.

Avoid areas like wet leaves, oil, or standing water.
If you start to skid, follow these steps:

Slowly remove your foot from the accelerator.

Do not use the brakes.
-
Turn the steering wheel in the direction of the skid.
-
Try to get a wheel on dry pavement.

Guam Construction Update for the week of August 31 - September 6, 2026
Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed flaggers (when present). Alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
Islandwide Primary Roads Paving and Pavement Markings TO-4
Route 10
Construction activities will continue along Route 10 from August 31, 2026 – September 6, 2026. Contractor crews will be working at various locations within the intersection throughout the week. Intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

Striping and Marker installation at Route 4/Route 10 intersection
Saturday, Sunday, September 5 - 6, 2026, No Work Scheduled
Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and plan their travel time accordingly. Please use alternate routes and follow posted detour signs. Reduce speed and comply with posted limits when passing through the work zone. Remain alert for uneven pavement surfaces and temporary steel plates, and proceed with caution at all times.
Islandwide Safety Improvement on Primary Roads (Striping and Marking)
TO-03 - Route 1, from Route 27 to AAFB
Construction activities will continue along Route 1, from August 31, 2026 to September 6, 2026. Contractor crews will be working at various locations along this area of Route 1 throughout the week and intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

Monday to Friday August 30, 2026 to September 4, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, (between Yigo McDonalds to Anderson Air Force Base), Install pavement markings and markers)

Islandwide Accessibility Accommodation and Drainage Improvements
Construction activities are scheduled at the following locations from August 31, 2026 – September 6, 2026:

At the intersection of Route 8 and Route 1: Contractor crews will be working on the sidewalk by the entrance of The Blush Bridal Shop. Flaggers will be directing motorists entering and exiting the business zone.

At the northern entrance to the Ben N' Yan's building along Route 16: Access at this area will be limited to entrance only. Exiting vehicles and pedestrians will be directed to the southern gate.

Route 17 Cross Island Road Improvements – Santa Rita/Yona
Road construction activities along Route 17 are underway and will continue over the coming months. Multiple contractor crews may be working at various locations throughout the project limits. Intermittent lane closures in either direction should be expected during work hours.

DPW HMC Grass Cutting
The DPW HMC crew will be bush cutting and side cutting at the following locations during the week, weather permitting:

Work will occur between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday - Friday. The DPW asks motorists to proceed with caution and remain alert for traffic control signs and work crews.
