Skids on Slippery Surfaces

To prevent skidding on slippery surfaces:

• Slow down as you approach intersections and curves. For sharp curves, slow down as you approach and move through.

• Avoid fast turns and quick stops.

• Shift to low gear before going down a steep hill.

• Avoid areas like wet leaves, oil, or standing water.

If you start to skid, follow these steps:

• Slowly remove your foot from the accelerator.

• Do not use the brakes.

• Turn the steering wheel in the direction of the skid.

• Try to get a wheel on dry pavement.

Guam Construction Update for the week of August 17 - 23, 2026

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed flaggers (when present). Alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.

Islandwide Primary Roads Paving and Pavement Markings TO-4

Construction activities will continue along Route 10 from August 17, 2026 – August 23, 2026. Contractor crews will be working at various locations within the intersection throughout the week. Intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

• Monday to Saturday, August 17, 2026 – August 22, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Loop Sensor installation at Corten Torres/ Route 10 intersection

  • Loop Sensor installation at Route 4/ Route 10 intersection

• Sunday, August 23, 2026, No Work Scheduled (Tentative)

Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and plan their travel time accordingly. Please use alternate routes and follow posted detour signs. Reduce speed and comply with posted limits when passing through the work zone. Remain alert for uneven pavement surfaces and temporary steel plates, and proceed with caution at all times.

Islandwide Safety Improvement on Primary Roads (Striping and Marking) TO-03 - Route 1, from Route 27 to AAFB

Construction activities will continue along Route 1, from August 17, 2026 to August 23, 2026. Contractor crews will be working at various locations along this area of Route 1 throughout the week and intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

• Monday to Friday August 17, 2026 to August 21, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, (between Juan Jacinto to Anderson Air Force Base), Install pavement markings and markers.

• Saturday, August 22, 2026, No Work Scheduled

• Sunday, August 23, 2026, No Work Scheduled

Islandwide Accessibility Accommodation and Drainage Improvements

Construction activities are tentatively scheduled to begin along Route 16 from August 17, 2026 – August 23, 2026. Contractor crews will be working on the sidewalk by the northern entrance to the Ben N' Yan's building throughout the week. Access at this area will be closed and will be routed to the southern entrance. Working hours:

• Monday to Friday August 17, 2026 to August 21, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

• Saturday, August 22, 2026, No Work Scheduled

Route 17 Cross Island Road Improvements – Santa Rita/Yona

Road construction activities along Route 17 are underway and will continue over the coming months. Multiple contractor crews may be working at various locations throughout the project limits. Intermittent lane closures in either direction should be expected during work hours.

Power Pole Installation – Samsung E&C America

Route 17 between Route 5 and Route 4A

Motorists are advised of intermittent lane closures in both directions along Route 17 (Cross Island Road) between Route 5 and Route 4A as Samsung E&C America continues power pole installation. This work is expected to continue over the coming weeks.

Please drive with caution through the work zone, observe posted signage, and expect possible delays.

DPW HMC Grass Cutting: Route 4 from Route 17 (Cross Island Road) Intersection to Jeff’s Pirates Cove

The DPW HMC crew will be side cutting along Route 4 from the Route 17 (Cross Island Road) Intersection to Jeff’s Pirates Cove, weather permitting. Work will occur between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday - Friday. The DPW asks motorists to please proceed with caution and remain alert for traffic control signs and work crews.
