Road Safety Reminder for the week of August 10 - 16, 2026

Skids on Slippery Surfaces

To prevent skidding on slippery surfaces:

  • Slow down as you approach intersections and curves. For sharp curves, slow down as you approach and move through.

  • Avoid fast turns and quick stops.

  • Shift to low gear before going down a steep hill.

  • Avoid areas like wet leaves, oil, or standing water.

If you start to skid, follow these steps:

  • Slowly remove your foot from the accelerator

  • Do not use the brakes.

  • Turn the steering wheel in the direction of the skid.

  • Try to get a wheel on dry pavement.

Guam Construction Update for the week of August 10 - 16, 2026

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed flaggers (when present). Alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.

 

Islandwide Primary Roads Paving and Pavement Markings TO-4 Route 10

Construction activities will continue along Route 10 from August 10, 2026 – August 16, 2026. Contractor crews will be working at various locations within the intersection throughout the week. Intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

Monday to Friday, August 10, 2026 – August 14, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Pavement Striping/ Marking at Corten Torres/ Route 10 intersection

  • Loop Sensor installation at Route 32/ Route 10 intersection

Saturday, August 15 , 2026, No Work Scheduled (Tentative)

Sunday, August 16, 2026, No Work Scheduled (Tentative)

Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and plan their travel time accordingly. Please use al-ternate routes and follow posted detour signs. Reduce speed and comply with posted limits when passing through the work zone. Remain alert for uneven pavement surfaces and temporary steel plates, and proceed with caution at all times.

 

Islandwide Safety Improvement on Primary Roads (Striping and Marking) TO-03 - Route 1, from Route 27 to AAFB

Construction activities will continue along Route 1, from August 10, 2026 to August 14, 2026. Contractor crews will be working at various locations along this area of Route 1 throughout the week and intermittent lane closures in both directions are expected during work hours:

  • Monday to Friday August 10, 2026 to August 14, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, (between Yigo Payless to Anderson Air Force Base), Install pavement markings and markers)

  • Saturday, August 15, 2026, No Work Scheduled

  • Sunday, August 16, 2026, No Work Scheduled

 

Route 17 Cross Island Road Improvements – Santa Rita/Yona

Road construction activities along Route 17 are underway and will continue over the coming months. Multiple contractor crews may be working at various locations throughout the project lim-its. Intermittent lane closures in either direction should be expected during work hours.

 

Pavement Repair (Milling and Paving)

Route 17 between Route 5 and Aplachao Bridge

  • Monday to Tuesday, August 10 – August 11, 2026, No Work Scheduled

  • Wednesday to Friday, August 12 – August 14, 2026, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Saturday, August 15, 2026, 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Sunday, August 16, 2026, No Work Scheduled

 

Power Pole Installation – Samsung E&C America

Route 17 between Route 5 and Route 4A

Motorists are advised of intermittent lane closures in both directions along Route 17 (Cross Island Road) between Route 5 and Route 4A as Samsung E&C America continues power pole installation. This work is expected to continue over the coming weeks.

Please drive with caution through the work zone, observe posted signage, and expect possible delays.
