Road Safety Reminder for the Week

THE RIGHT OF WAY RULE: Emergency Vehicles
Upon the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle (ambulance, police, fire equipment, civil defense, explosive ordinance, etc.) that is sounding a siren and/or displaying flashing red or blue lights, all highway users must yield the right-of-way (Motor Vehicle Code of Guam Section 3333).

  1. The operators of all other vehicles shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curb of the highway clear of any intersection and thereupon stop and remain in such position until such authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.
  2. All pedestrians upon the highway shall remain in a place of safety until such authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.


 

Guam Construction Update

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through all construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed to flaggers. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
 

Route 3 Widening

Construction activities are ongoing along Route 3 from just north of Route 28 to Potts Junction.Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs.
 

Route 1 and Route 8 Resurfacing and Route 8/Canada-Toto Loop Intersection

On Monday 11/11/2019, motorists are advised that there will be intermittent lane closures along the Route 8A Intersection in Barrigada from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Taking alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times is encouraged.

On Saturday 11/16/2019, the DPW contractor will be milling and paving the northbound lane on Route 10 Intersection (by 76 Circle K gas station) in Barrigada. Motorists are advised that there will be lane closures and lane shifts along the northbound, eastbound and westbound lanes from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The traffic signals will not be operational during construction. Access to 76 Circle K gas station from Route 10 will remain open during this time.
On Saturday 11/16/2019, there will be intermittent closures at the intersection of Route 8 and Canada-Toto Loop Road from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

On Sunday 11/17/2019, the DPW contractor will be milling and paving the southwest corner of the Route 8/10/16 Intersection (by Shell gas station) in Barrigada. Motorists are advised that there will be lane closures and lane shifts in the area from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The traffic signals will not be operational during construction. Access to Shell Gas Station will be limited for approximately 10 minutes in the morning and an hour and a half in the afternoon. Exact times of closure is dependent on the work operations. Access to Crown Bakery from Route 10 via Adacao Avenue will remain open during this time.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously through the construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs. Taking alternate routes and/or adjusting drive times is encouraged.
