Road Safety Reminder for the Week

Traffic Signal Light Not Working (Blackout)

At intersections without traffic control devices, such as STOP or YIELD signs or Traffic Control Signs:

  • The first vehicle in the intersection has the right to go ahead. Keep in mind, however, that it is the responsibility of all drivers to Yield the right-of-way.
  • When two vehicles enter an intersection from different streets or highways at the same time, the vehicle on the left shall Yield the right-of-way to the vehicle on the right. (Motor Vehicle Code of Guam Section 3325).


 

Guam Construction Update

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through all construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed to flaggers. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
 

Route 3 Widening

Construction activities are ongoing along Route 3 from just north of Route 28 to just south of Potts Junction. Motorists can expect lane closures and flagger controlled traffic.

From Monday 03/25/19 to Friday 03/29/19, the DPW contractor will be trenching across Route 3 for the installation of communication lines from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Traffic will be reduced to one lane between Artero and Mabolo Drive. There will be flaggers directing traffic during this time.
 

Route 1/3 Intersection Improvements

From Tuesday 03/26/2019 through Friday 03/29/2019, the DPW contractor will be working on storm drain pipes. Motorists are advised that the Route 1 northbound right lane west of the intersection will be closed starting from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Two through lanes will be provided. Motorists continuing northbound on Route 1 are advised to merge to the open lanes as directed by traffic signs.
 

Route 1 and Route 8 Resurfacing

The DPW contractor, Hawaiian Rock Products, will be working on the following areas between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM:

Yigo-Dededo

  • On Monday 03/25/19 – paving along southbound lanes from Ely’s Auto Shop to GPA Yard
  • From Monday 03/25/19 through Sunday 03/31/19 – pavement marking layout and installation of pavement markers along southbound lanes from Wusstig Road to Batullo Street
  • On Saturday 03/30/19 – paving along southbound lanes on Juan Jacinto Drive

Route 8/Canada-Toto Loop Intersection

  • From Monday 03/18/19 through Saturday 03/23/19 – excavation and concrete work for traffic signal poles and shoulder work along the westbound lanes on Route 8

Motorists are advised to expect lane closures, lane shifts, and flagger-controlled traffic in these areas.
