Road Safety Reminder for the Week

THE RIGHT OF WAY RULES (Part 5 of 6)

Emergency Vehicles:

Upon the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle (ambulance, police, fire equipment, civil defense, explosive ordinance, etc.) that is sounding a siren and/or displaying flashing red or blue lights, all highway users must yield the right-of-way (Motor Vehicle Code of Guam Section 3333).

  1. The operators of all other vehicles shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curb of the highway clear of any intersection and thereupon stop and remain in such position until such authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.
  2. All pedestrians upon the highway shall remain in a place of safety until such authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.


 

Guam Construction Update

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through all construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed to flaggers. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
 

Route 3 Widening

Starting Monday, 06/17/19 the southbound traffic will be diverted to what is currently the southbound left turn and acceleration/merge lanes while work is completed in this area for the next 3 months.

Other construction activities are ongoing along Route 3 from just north of Route 28. Motorists are advised of the traffic shift on Route 3 between Chalan Castro and Potts Junction from the existing roadway to the new construction. Motorists are advised to expect lane closures and flagger-controlled traffic.
 

Route 1 and Route 8 Resurfacing

From Monday 06/17/19 through Sunday 06/23/19, the DPW contractor, Hawaiian Rock Products, will continue working on the new traffic signal at the Route 8/Canada-Toto Loop Road intersection between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Motorists are advised to expect lane closures, lane shifts, and flagger-controlled traffic in these areas.
 

South Paulino Heights Road–Ipan, Talofofo

The Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Maintenance crews will be preparing the road bed for Hot Mix Asphalt Paving. Motorist are advised to proceed with caution through the construction areas and to expect delays.
