Road Safety Reminder for the Week

THE RIGHT OF WAY RULES (Part 5 of 6)

Emergency Vehicles:

Upon the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle (ambulance, police, fire equipment, civil defense, explosive ordinance, etc.) that is sounding a siren and/or displaying flashing red or blue lights, all highway users must yield the right-of-way (Motor Vehicle Code of Guam Section 3333).

  1. The operators of all other vehicles shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curb of the highway clear of any intersection and thereupon stop and remain in such position until such authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.
  2. All pedestrians upon the highway shall remain in a place of safety until such authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.


 

Guam Construction Update

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through all construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed to flaggers. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.
 

Route 3 Widening

Construction activities are ongoing along Route 3 from just north of Route 28. Motorists are advised of the traffic shift on Route 3 between Chalan Castro and Potts Junction from the existing roadway to the new construction. Motorists are advised to expect lane closures and flagger-controlled traffic.
 

Route 1 and Route 8 Resurfacing

There will be intermittent multiple lane closures at Route 8 Barrigada from the Days Inn Hotel to Canada-Toto Loop Road on the eastbound inner and outer lanes as the DPW contractor will be paving spot repair areas. Motorists are also advised to expect intermittent lane closures on the east and westbound outer lanes at the Route 8/Canada-Toto Loop Road Intersection as construction work continues in this area.
 

North and South Paulino Heights Road–Ipan, Talofofo

From Monday 7/1/2019-7/7/2019, the Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Maintenance crews will continue paving in this area. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution through the construction areas and to expect delays.
 

Route 1–Adelup to Chief Kepuha Loop, Hagåtña

The Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Maintenance crews will be cleaning along the road in preparation for the Liberation Day parade. Motorists should proceed with caution through the area and should expect temporary lane shifts and closures throughout the week.
