Road Safety Reminder for the Week
TRAFFIC SIGNAL LIGHTS and what they mean:
A Solid RED light means "STOP" until the green light appears.
Do not turn if a “NO TURN ON RED” sign is posted.
A Flashing Red light is the same as “STOP” sign.
Come to a complete stop at the intersection before proceeding.
A Red Arrow means “STOP.” Remain stopped until the green signal or green arrow appears. Do not turn against a red arrow.
A Solid YELLOW light means "WARNING" and tells you that red signal is about to appear. When you see the Yellow, you should stop your vehicle, if you can do so without danger to other cars and wait for the green light before starting.
A Flashing Yellow light means "SLOW DOWN" and proceed with caution. Slow down and be alert before entering the intersection. Yield to any pedestrians, bicyclists, or vehicles in the intersection. You do not need to stop for a flashing yellow traffic signal light.
Flashing Yellow Arrow–This traffic signal light means turns are permitted (unprotected), but you must first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians and then proceed with caution.
A Yellow Arrow means the “protected” turning time period is ending. Be prepared to obey the next traffic signal light, which could be the green or red traffic signal light or the red arrow.
A Solid GREEN light means "GO", but you must allow any vehicles remaining in the intersection to go through before you may move ahead.
A Green Arrow permits the motorist to proceed in the indicated direction without interference from oncoming traffic after yielding to any vehicle, bicyclist, or pedestrian still in the intersection.
Traffic Signal Light Not Working (Blackout)
When the traffic signal lights is not working properly, whether flashing red or no lights are showing, treat the intersection as if it is controlled by a “STOP” sign in all directions. This means that all traffic must come to a complete stop prior to proceeding, obeying the rules for a “STOP” sign.
