Road Safety Reminder for the Week

Traffic Signal Light Not Working (Blackout)–When the traffic signal lights is not working properly, whether flashing red or no lights are showing, treat the intersection as if it is controlled by a “STOP” sign in all directions. This means that all traffic must come to a complete stop prior to proceeding, obeying the rules for a “STOP” sign.


Guam Construction Update

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through all construction zones, observe all posted speed limit and construction signs, and carefully heed to flaggers. Alternative routes and/or adjusting drive times when feasible are encouraged.

Route 3 Widening

Construction activities are ongoing along Route 3 from just north of Route 28 to just south of Potts Junction. Motorists can expect lane closures and flagger controlled traffic.

Route 1 and Route 8 Resurfacing

From Monday, March4, 2019 to Sunday, March 10, 2019, the DPW contractor, Hawaiian Rock Products, will be working on the following areas between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM:

  • milling and paving along southbound lanes on Route 1 – Yigo/Dededo (from Shell Gas Station-Yigo to Guam Home Center)
  • installing friction course along Route 8 from Tiyan to Mobil Gas Station
  • excavation and concrete work for traffic signal pole and controller foundations along westside shoulder area at the Route 8 corner Canada-Toto Loop Intersection

Motorists are advised to expect lane closures, lane shifts, and flagger-controlled traffic in these areas.

South Paulino Heights – Ipan/Talofofo

The Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Maintenance crew will continue preparing the road bed for hot mix asphalt paving starting from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution through the construction areas and to expect delays.
